We provide essential resources and programs that empower the community, serving over 11,000 individuals and families each year in multiple languages. Our services include early childhood education, youth mentorship, employment training, housing assistance, and cultural events.

Program Overview

The Children and Family Services programs encompass various initiatives, including Head Start and Early Head Start, which serve children from birth to kindergarten entry, along with expectant parents. Our services are tailored to meet the diverse needs of families in Oakland and Concord.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Associate Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality care and education to infants and toddlers in a nurturing environment. This role promotes the holistic development of children enrolled in the Early Head Start program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nurturing care during daily routines such as meals, hygiene, and rest for infants and toddlers.
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate educational activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create and execute daily lesson plans.
  • Conduct assessments and maintain ongoing observations of children’s development.
  • Facilitate parent-teacher conferences and home visits as required.
  • Utilize classroom resources to foster an engaging and supportive learning environment.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with families.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy classroom in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Center Director.

Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and implement effective curriculum plans.
  • Strong teamwork skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Compassionate approach to working with children and families.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English or another Asian language/English is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and preventive health measures.

Requirements

  • Possession of an Associate Teacher Permit from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Completion of 15 units in Early Childhood Education, including core courses and infant/toddler care.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, lifting up to 30 pounds, and engaging in active play with children.
