The Westchester County Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking qualified IT professionals for the role of Assistant Director of Telecommunications.

Under the guidance of the Deputy Chief Information Officer, the selected candidate will play a crucial role in the planning, development, project management, execution, and ongoing support of the enhanced 911 Emergency System across the County and its local municipal Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).

This position also involves assisting in the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, services, and data networks for all County departments. Furthermore, the successful candidate will contribute to the planning, project management, execution, and continuous support of the enhanced 911 Emergency System.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing and coordinating efforts with local municipal police, fire, and EMS agencies in the implementation and operation of the Enhanced 911 Emergency System.
  • Developing and maintaining operational, non-recurring, equipment, and capital budgets for the 911 Emergency System, including projected allocations for end-user departments and divisions.
  • Creating technical specifications for the procurement of telecommunications and data equipment, systems, and services.
  • Overseeing the processing and implementation of requests from local municipal police, fire, and EMS agencies for modifications or relocations of telecommunications and data equipment and services.
  • Ensuring the implementation, support, training, and contract management of the County's emergency notification system.

Candidate Requirements:

The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of the Enhanced 911 Emergency System.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree and five years of experience (pre or post degree) in a role focused on planning, procurement, and management of telecommunications systems and/or services, including two years in a supervisory or team lead capacity; or
  • Nine years of experience in telecommunications planning and procurement of services, with at least one year in a supervisory role; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of the above training and experience.

Additionally, a valid New York State Driver's license is required and must be maintained while in this position.

This is a Civil Service position that necessitates the successful candidate to be appointed from a list of eligible candidates following examination.
