Are you a recent graduate from the Police Academy or currently serving as a Police Officer with another agency, still on probation? The Walnut Creek Police Department is looking for dedicated individuals who are committed to serving the community with integrity, professionalism, and respect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols in designated areas to prevent and detect criminal activity while enforcing laws and regulations.
  • Respond to and investigate reported incidents, documenting complaints, accidents, and offenses.
  • Make arrests, inform suspects of their rights, and prepare detailed reports on arrests and property impounded.
  • Inspect crime scenes, interview witnesses, and analyze evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding criminal activities.
  • Provide assistance and information to the public, issue warnings and citations for traffic violations, and conduct vehicle inspections.
  • Engage in special investigations and community outreach, including presentations to schools and local organizations.
  • May serve as a temporary supervisor or Watch Commander when necessary.

Qualifications:

To be considered for the position of Law Enforcement Officer, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university (up to 15 units from the police academy may be included).
  • Possession of a California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate, obtained within the last three years (out-of-state applicants may qualify as Lateral candidates).

Experience Requirements:

Applicants must meet one of the following experience criteria:

  • Currently employed in a sworn capacity with a California law enforcement agency and not yet completed probation.
  • Previous experience in a sworn capacity with a California agency, with a current P.O.S.T. Recertification.

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Meet the City's medical standards related to physical requirements prior to employment.
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle under various conditions and handle law enforcement equipment.
  • Capable of administering CPR and first aid, and responding effectively to emergencies.
