Position Overview

Title: Commercial Lending Officer

Department: Lending

Reports to: EVP/Chief Lending Officer

Status: Exempt

Summary: The Commercial Lending Officer is responsible for cultivating and overseeing commercial loan portfolios that align with the Bank's lending standards while maximizing profitability and minimizing risk exposure.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conducts interviews with loan applicants, gathering and evaluating financial and related information to assess the creditworthiness of potential borrowers and the viability of loan requests.
  2. Underwrites loans, determining and negotiating terms for credit extension, including costs, repayment methods, schedules, and collateral stipulations.
  3. Approves loans within designated limits and acts as a liaison for loans exceeding those limits, typically managing more complex and significant loan transactions.
  4. Collects and reviews data reflecting the current credit status of clients and the ongoing merits of existing loans, utilizing various methods such as direct inspections, financial report reviews, and personal interviews.
  5. Monitors loan repayment activities and implements necessary actions to recover overdue accounts.
  6. Provides advisory services to clients regarding business management and financial strategies.
  7. Generates new business opportunities by engaging with prospects and existing clients, promoting additional Bank services.
  8. Participates as a member of the loan committee, contributing to the preliminary assessment of loan applications.
  9. Prepares materials and delivers loan presentations to the executive committee as required.
  10. Engages in community initiatives to enhance the Bank's visibility and foster new business relationships.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Acts as a primary contact for non-borrowing accounts and loan clients regarding other Bank services.
  2. Undertakes special projects related to departmental services as directed by the Senior Lender.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  1. Comprehensive understanding of commercial lending criteria and the strategic objectives of the lending department. Strong analytical abilities for conducting commercial appraisals and income assessments. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively represent the Bank and negotiate commercial lending agreements.
  2. Ability to work flexible hours as needed for deal inspections and evaluations.
  3. Completion of a formal credit training program is highly preferred.
  1. A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  2. A minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in the commercial lending sector is essential.
