Position: Commercial Lending Officer

Department: Lending

Reports to: EVP/Chief Lending Officer

Status: Exempt

Summary:

The Commercial Lending Officer is responsible for developing and overseeing commercial loan portfolios that align with the Bank's lending standards while maximizing profitability and minimizing risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct interviews with loan applicants, gathering and assessing financial data to evaluate creditworthiness and the viability of loan requests.
  2. Underwrite loans, determining and negotiating terms for credit extension, including costs, repayment methods, schedules, and collateral requirements.
  3. Authorize loans within designated limits and act as a liaison for loans exceeding those limits, focusing on complex and significant departmental loans.
  4. Review and analyze customer creditworthiness and the merits of existing loans, utilizing various methods such as direct inspections and financial report reviews.
  5. Monitor loan repayment processes and initiate actions for overdue accounts.
  6. Provide guidance to clients on business management and financial strategies when applicable.
  7. Generate new business opportunities by engaging with prospects and existing clients, promoting Bank services.
  8. Participate in the loan committee to evaluate loan requests preliminarily.
  9. Prepare and present loan proposals to the executive committee as needed.
  10. Engage in community activities to enhance the Bank's visibility and foster new business relationships.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Act as a primary contact for non-borrowing accounts and loan clients regarding other Bank services.
  2. Take on special projects related to departmental functions as directed by the Senior Lender.
  3. Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  1. Comprehensive understanding of commercial lending standards and departmental business objectives. Strong analytical capabilities for conducting commercial appraisals and income assessments. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively represent the Bank and negotiate commercial lending agreements.
  2. Willingness to work flexible hours for the evaluation of potential deals.
  3. Completion of a formal credit training program is highly preferred.
  1. A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  2. A minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in commercial lending is essential.
