Position Overview

Title: Commercial Lending Officer

Department: Lending

Reports to: EVP/Chief Lending Officer

Status: Exempt

Summary: The Commercial Lending Officer is responsible for developing and overseeing commercial loan portfolios that align with the Bank's lending standards while maximizing profitability and minimizing risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct interviews with loan applicants, gathering and assessing financial data to evaluate creditworthiness and the viability of loan requests.
  2. Underwrite loans, determining and negotiating terms for credit extension, including costs, repayment methods, schedules, and collateral requirements.
  3. Authorize loans within designated limits and act as a liaison for loans exceeding those limits, focusing on complex and significant loan transactions.
  4. Review and analyze customer creditworthiness and the status of existing loans, utilizing various methods such as direct business inspections and financial report evaluations.
  5. Monitor loan repayment activities and initiate necessary actions for collections on overdue accounts.
  6. Provide guidance to clients on business management and financial matters when applicable.
  7. Generate new business opportunities by engaging with potential clients and promoting Bank services.
  8. Participate in the loan committee, contributing to the preliminary assessment of loan applications.
  9. Prepare and present loan proposals to the executive committee as required.
  10. Engage in community activities to enhance the Bank's presence and foster new business opportunities.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Act as a primary contact for non-borrowing accounts and loan clients regarding other Bank services.
  2. Assist with special projects related to departmental functions as directed by the Senior Lender.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. Comprehensive understanding of commercial lending standards and departmental business objectives. Strong analytical skills for conducting commercial evaluations and appraisals.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively represent the Bank and negotiate commercial lending agreements.
  3. Willingness to work flexible hours for deal evaluations and inspections.
  1. Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  2. A minimum of five to seven years of progressive experience in commercial lending is essential.
