Position: Senior Procurement Specialist

SMX Corporation is in search of a proficient Senior Procurement Specialist to deliver procurement support for our C5ISR clientele.

The successful candidate will be responsible for compiling, awarding, and executing purchase orders for materials, supplies, equipment, and services while adhering to policy guidelines in a dynamic contractual landscape.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Acquire materials, supplies, equipment, and services of a complex nature from vendors at the most competitive cost while ensuring quality, reliability, and urgency of need.
  • Engage with suppliers, solicit quotations, evaluate bids, make awards, place orders, and expedite delivery.
  • Negotiate terms and pricing with vendors.
  • Monitor all awards until the completion of orders.
  • Resolve issues with vendors regarding damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, overages, cancellations, and other modifications.
  • Act as the primary liaison between internal teams or customer representatives and suppliers to address inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Provide mentorship to junior Buyers.
  • Potentially lead a small team of Buyers on significant programs or critical components of major programs by coordinating procurement activities and keeping management informed of any performance concerns.
  • Review peer files for compliance with SMX procedures.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders regarding procurement needs.
  • Assess non-competitive justifications for adequacy.
  • Conduct price analyses utilizing methods other than adequate price competition.
  • Prepare procurement documentation in accordance with SMX standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field along with 8 or more years of directly related experience in a Federal Government contracting setting. In certain instances, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for candidates with over 10 years of applicable work experience.
  • Familiarity with an approved purchasing system (CPSR) environment.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a cooperative environment.
  • Knowledge of processing non-competitive procurements.
  • Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel; experience with Costpoint is advantageous.
  • Background in a CPSR environment.
US Citizenship is required for work under DoD contracts.
