As a Telecommunications Service Specialist I at GCI, you will embody the company's commitment to service excellence, delivering installation and maintenance of video, high-speed data, and voice solutions within residential and commercial environments in a professional and efficient manner.

Your primary clientele includes the general public who have engaged with our products and services and are contemplating enhancements or expansions of their current offerings.

This position is eligible for a $2,500 Hiring Bonus for new employees.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems, including both analog and digital technologies for video, voice, and data services from the tap or demarcation point to the customer's premises.
  • Conduct routine service and maintenance on various components, including radio frequency, analog, microwave, fiber optic, and AC/DC systems.
  • Direct issues between the demarcation point and the headend or distribution center to the appropriate network technicians.
  • Carry out service disconnections, reconnections, or relocations as directed, and repair or replace worn components and faulty connections. Utilize testing equipment to measure and adjust signal strength for optimal reception.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks, such as underground cable locates, outage responses, rewiring, and system repairs.
  • Engage with customers on-site, providing information about additional service offerings.
  • Assist senior technicians and mentor junior staff in the installation, testing, and repair of custom service orders.
  • Maintain basic vehicle upkeep, manage truck stock, and adhere to the company's safe driving policies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This is an entry-level role within the telecommunications field service sector, with opportunities for learning through company certifications and mentorship from senior technicians.

You will gain insights into installation, modifications, and testing procedures for video, data, and voice services within customer properties.

Work will be conducted under close supervision, with tasks reviewed by senior staff.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge and ability to perform installation, service, disconnections, testing, and repair of video, voice, and data services.
  • Evaluate field conditions and perform tests to ensure signal quality, ensuring proper cabling from the tap to customer equipment.
  • Organize daily tasks and utilize industry-standard tools and equipment for service installation and maintenance.
  • Communicate with Dispatch to update and complete service orders or trouble tickets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least six months of experience in a technical role or related field.
  • Must be willing to complete required certifications and training upon hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at heights up to 40 feet and navigate uneven surfaces.
  • Capability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and environments.
