Role Summary

The Clinical Support Specialist is responsible for efficiently managing the flow of ambulatory patients presenting with initial injuries, illnesses, and for conducting physical examinations, testing, and follow-up consultations.

This role involves collaboration with the clinical team to ensure comprehensive patient care. Responsibilities include front desk coverage, telephone management, appointment scheduling, and patient processing. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player who engages positively with all staff members.Key Responsibilities
  • Introduce oneself to patients upon arrival, confirm their date of birth, and prepare them for examination according to departmental protocols.
  • Conduct vital sign assessments, audiometry, spirometry, vision tests, lab specimen collection, drug testing, and breath alcohol testing in a timely and precise manner to uphold quality patient care.
  • Maintain well-stocked examination rooms, routinely check medication and supply expiration dates, and follow proper procedures for reordering supplies.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures diligently.
  • Perform daily quality assurance checks on all necessary equipment and document results in compliance with Point of Care policies.
  • Complete all required departmental competencies, maintain necessary licenses, and fulfill educational requirements.
  • Exhibit high standards of service excellence as perceived by internal and external clients, customers, and colleagues.
  • Process Workers Compensation referrals in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Accurately register patients and input demographic and occupational history into the Systoc system for registration, billing, and tracking purposes.
  • Understand the functionality of the Systoc database and comply with all registration protocols.
  • Manage incoming fax documents according to departmental procedures.
  • Occasionally assist the provider/department with onsite examinations, laboratory blood draws, and other testing as required.
  • Provide coverage for both Middletown and Essex locations to maintain necessary competencies and skills.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in a clinical environment, preferably within Occupational Medicine or Primary Care settings. Medical Assistant certification is highly desirable. Effective communication skills, phlebotomy proficiency, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required. Experience with EKGs, urinalysis, and vision testing is preferred. Strong customer service skills and telephone etiquette are essential. Proficiency in electronic health records is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an ambulatory physician practice, particularly in Primary Care or Occupational Medicine. Familiarity with electronic health records and diagnostic testing relevant to these fields.
