Animal Care Specialist

Position: Veterinary Kennel Attendant
Coyne Veterinary Center in Portage, Indiana is looking for a dedicated Kennel Attendant to provide exceptional care for our boarding and hospitalized animals.
The primary responsibility of the kennel attendant is to ensure the well-being of all pets in our facility. This includes daily feeding, exercise, and monitoring of pets for any signs of distress or health issues. The attendant will work closely with veterinary technicians and doctors, assisting in various medical procedures and providing excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver compassionate care to all boarding and hospitalized animals.
- Conduct regular inspections of kennel areas to identify any unusual behaviors or health concerns.
- Respond to emergency situations promptly, collaborating with veterinary staff as needed.
- Maintain accurate records regarding pet health and behavior.
- Follow feeding schedules and special dietary instructions meticulously.
- Ensure cleanliness by disinfecting cages, runs, and common areas regularly.
- Attend to the needs of cats, including litter box maintenance and cleaning of their living spaces.
- Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately to ensure safety.
- Facilitate the movement of pets to outdoor areas for exercise and sanitation purposes.
- Assist with laundry duties related to hospital linens and pet bedding.
- Provide grooming services, including baths and nail trimming, as required.
- Oversee pets during outdoor activities to ensure their safety.
- Support the receptionist with the check-in and check-out process for boarding pets.
- Administer preventive treatments as directed by veterinary staff.
- Maintain a clean and organized facility, including outdoor areas.
- Educate clients about our services and provide facility tours.
- Participate in mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a noisy environment with various animal sounds.
- Adhere to safety protocols regarding exposure to various substances.
