Coyne Veterinary Center in Portage is looking for a dedicated Animal Care Specialist to enhance our team.

The primary responsibility of the Animal Care Specialist is to provide exceptional care to our patients, acting as a vital support to our veterinarians. This role involves conducting patient evaluations, administering anesthesia, and performing various medical procedures and treatments. A successful candidate will be detail-oriented, capable of making informed decisions, and able to remain calm in high-pressure situations while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

Strong communication skills are essential, as the Specialist will interact with veterinarians, other staff members, and clients to ensure optimal patient care. The ability to work well with a diverse range of individuals and animals is crucial, as is the flexibility to adapt to the varying needs of clients and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver compassionate care to all patients.
  • Administer medications as directed by veterinarians, utilizing various routes including intravenous, intramuscular, and oral.
  • Perform physical examinations and document findings accurately.
  • Conduct laboratory tests and manage laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in surgical and diagnostic procedures as required.
  • Provide support during patient admissions and discharges, ensuring proper grooming and medical status.
  • Engage with clients, addressing their inquiries about veterinary services and providing informed advice.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in treatment and surgical areas.
  • Participate in ongoing training and staff meetings to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college education preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a veterinary setting.
  • RVT license is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment with various sounds and stimuli.
