Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse, the Patient Safety Advocate (PSA) plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety through continuous observation and supportive interaction. The PSA addresses immediate safety concerns by monitoring patients either in-person or through remote solutions, responding to patient needs, and facilitating optimal care. Timely communication with the RN/Charge Nurse regarding any changes in patient status is essential. The PSA is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all relevant procedures appropriate to the patient demographics served.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct oversight of patients under the guidance of the RN, ensuring a secure environment by monitoring for unsafe actions, such as tampering with medical devices or attempting to leave the bed unassisted.
  • Deliver updates and reports on patient status, including relaying any concerning expressions from the patient regarding self-harm or harm to others. Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish interventions and objectives for patient care.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including meal service, feeding, mobility support, and maintaining hydration and nourishment between meals.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and bathrooms, collaborating with the Hospitality Services Department to maintain a tidy environment.
  • Contribute to a healing atmosphere by minimizing noise and distractions in the patient’s vicinity.
  • Support patient mobility as needed.
  • Adhere to Patient Safety Advocate protocols and guidelines.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of patient information to uphold organizational integrity.
  • Be knowledgeable about fire, disaster, and safety protocols relevant to the work environment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, encompassing various patient care activities as outlined in the Patient Safety Advocate Guidelines.

Qualifications:
Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
  • No prior experience necessary.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Responder course must be completed during orientation and renewed biannually.
