General Overview:

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse, the Patient Safety Coordinator (PSC) is tasked with continuous in-person monitoring, supportive interaction, and addressing the immediate safety requirements of patients by observing them in their rooms or through remote monitoring solutions at all times.

The PSC responds to patient inquiries and performs various functions to ensure optimal patient care. Timely communication with the RN/Charge Nurse regarding any changes in patient condition is essential. The role requires demonstrating proficiency in all procedures within the scope of practice, tailored to the age groups of the patients served.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct oversight of patients under the close supervision of the RN to promote a safer environment.


Monitor patients for any unsafe behaviors and employ supportive conversation, re-orientation, distraction techniques, and strategies to redirect the patient with courtesy, respect, patience, and understanding.


Deliver status updates and reports concerning the patient, including relaying information to the nurse if the patient expresses any thoughts of self-harm or harm to others.

Assist in establishing interventions and goals for the patient in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.


Support patients in their daily living activities, which includes serving meals, assisting with feeding as necessary, ambulating, turning, and positioning patients, providing fresh water and nourishment between meals, and managing waste disposal.


Ensure that the patient's room and bathroom are maintained in a neat and clean condition, assisting the Hospitality Services Department by tidying the patient room throughout the shift.


Actively contribute to creating a healing environment by maintaining a quiet atmosphere in and around the patient room at all times.

Assist with ambulation as needed.

Adhere to Patient Safety Coordinator guidelines as outlined.

Safeguard the organization's integrity by keeping patient information confidential.

Be knowledgeable about fire, disaster, and safety protocols and regulations relevant to the work area.

Perform similar or related duties as assigned, including patient care activities as specified in Patient Safety Coordinator Guidelines.

Qualifications:

Formal Education:
High School Diploma/GED preferred.

Work Experience:
No prior experience required.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
Completion of the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Responder course during Orientation, with renewal every 6 months.
