Position Overview

The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine, a leader in genomic research since its inception in 1996, is dedicated to advancing actionable translational research that spans the full range of human health and disease. Utilizing extensive genomic data, the HGSC fosters collaborative analytics, gene-phenotype discovery, and clinical innovation. The center is supported by various National Institutes of Health initiatives, including the All of Us Research Program and the Gregor Consortium, which focuses on understanding the genetics of rare diseases.

As part of the National Institutes of Health Common Fund initiative known as the Somatic Mosaicism across Human Tissues (SMaHT) Network, the HGSC is set to establish a Genome Characterization Center (GCC). This center will employ cutting-edge methodologies and develop innovative tools to catalog somatic mosaicism across diverse cell types, tissues, and life stages, enhancing our understanding of its impact on human biology and disease. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to contribute to the SMaHT project and related research activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designs, leads, and executes advanced research experiments.
  • Develops new laboratory protocols and procedures, assessing various library and sequencing methodologies while analyzing resultant data.
  • Optimizes and scales new DNA and RNA library preparation and sequencing techniques.
  • Summarizes research outcomes and disseminates findings through publication in scientific journals.
  • Conducts literature reviews and compiles information in a suitable format for specific studies.
  • Implements quality control measures on sequencing data, troubleshooting technical issues to maintain data integrity.
  • Documents experimental results, generating reports for presentation in both internal and external forums.
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of junior research staff.
Qualifications
  • Possession of an MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related discipline.
  • No prior experience is necessary.
Preferred Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in developing new laboratory genomics methods, particularly in somatic mutation sequencing and duplex sequencing.
  • Practical experience with qPCR and ddPCR techniques.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools is advantageous.
