Department Overview

The Electric Asset & Regulatory department is tasked with overseeing the engineering and planning of the electric system, developing asset strategies, and managing risks across various asset categories including transmission, distribution, and substations. This integrated, risk-aware methodology enables PG&E to effectively manage electric risks, maintain asset and system integrity, and optimize performance through standardized practices, prioritization, and program sponsorship, while utilizing insights gained from inspections and asset data to guide asset management strategies.

Position Summary
PG&E is in search of a seasoned business professional to join the Electric Incident Investigations (EII) Team as a Senior Incident Investigator. The EII team is responsible for documenting Electric Incidents (EIRs) to regulatory bodies, investigating these incidents to ascertain causes and recommend corrective or preventive actions, and managing ignition incident inquiries. Additionally, this role involves leading and staffing the Intelligence & Investigations section during emergency operations.

This position will offer significant visibility within PG&E's leadership structure and will contribute to various facets of the EII's responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical writing skills, be well-organized, self-motivated, curious, a team player, and able to grasp the overarching objectives of the organization.

This role is hybrid, allowing for remote work as well as in-office presence based on operational requirements.

Compensation

PG&E provides a salary range that reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position. The actual salary will be determined based on various factors including skills, education, experience, market value, and internal equity. The anticipated salary range is as follows:

Bay Area Minimum: $105,000

Bay Area Midpoint: $137,000

Bay Area Maximum: $169,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit incident reports to regulatory authorities and PG&E leadership, including drafting and editing data requests.
  • Compose detailed technical analyses of electric incidents.
  • Oversee investigations and analysis projects with minimal supervision, ensuring timely completion from initiation to presentation of findings.
  • Collaborate with leadership from various PG&E departments involved in the investigation process to define and maintain roles and responsibilities.
  • Engage consistently with Electric Operations partner organizations, including legal teams and other stakeholders.
  • Extract and analyze data from multiple PG&E systems, synthesizing findings to formulate actionable recommendations.
  • Provide on-call support for the Electric Incident Reporting hotline and submit initial incident reports.
  • Assist in the activation of the Emergency Operations Center, documenting damages and hazards during emergency events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, regularly seeking feedback to enhance processes and ensure value delivery.
  • Maintain high levels of stakeholder satisfaction by understanding and addressing client needs.
  • Ensure effective communication with stakeholders at all levels, tailoring messages to the audience.
  • Present findings to stakeholders, securing acceptance and approval as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit responses to Notices of Violation and associated data requests.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Over 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in utility incident investigations.
  • Ability to analyze complex and high-volume information, translating it into actionable insights.
  • Experience in data collection and review, ensuring data integrity through established processes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, overcoming obstacles to achieve objectives.
  • Experience in project management, handling multiple tasks concurrently.
