Department Overview

The Electric Asset & Regulatory department oversees the engineering and strategic planning of the electric system, focusing on asset strategy and risk management across various asset categories, including transmission, distribution, and substations. This centralized approach, informed by risk assessments, enables effective management of electric risks, asset health, interconnections, and overall performance through standardized practices, prioritization, and program sponsorship, while incorporating insights gained from inspections and asset data into asset management strategies.

Position Summary
PG&E is in search of a seasoned business professional to join the Electric Incident Investigations (EII) Team as a Senior Incident Investigator. The EII team is tasked with documenting Electric Incidents (EIRs) to regulatory bodies, conducting thorough investigations to ascertain causes and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence, and managing ignition incident inquiries. Additionally, this role will involve leading the Intelligence & Investigations section during emergency operations for Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events.

This position offers significant visibility within PG&E's leadership framework and may encompass various aspects of the EII's responsibilities. Ideal candidates will possess strong technical writing skills, alongside attributes such as organization, motivation, curiosity, and the ability to foster consensus while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of overarching objectives.

This role operates in a hybrid model, balancing remote work with in-office responsibilities based on organizational needs.

Compensation Overview

PG&E is committed to providing a competitive salary range for this position, reflective of the local market. The actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including skills, education, certifications, experience, market conditions, geographic location, and internal equity considerations. While the expectation is that successful candidates will be positioned around the midpoint of the salary range, final decisions will be made on an individual basis.

Salary Range:

Minimum: $105,000

Midpoint: $137,000

Maximum: $169,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit incident reports to regulatory authorities and PG&E leadership, including drafting and editing data requests.
  • Compose comprehensive technical analysis reports regarding electric incidents.
  • Oversee investigations and analytical projects with minimal supervision, from initial request through to presentation of findings and responses to data inquiries, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with leadership across various PG&E departments involved in the investigation process to define and maintain departmental roles and responsibilities.
  • Engage consistently with Electric Operations partner organizations, including legal counsel and other essential stakeholders.
  • Extract and analyze data from multiple PG&E systems, synthesizing information to derive actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Provide support for the Electric Incident Reporting hotline, including on-call assistance and initial incident report submissions.
  • Assist in the activation of the Emergency Operations Center and/or Regional Emergency Center, which may involve documenting damages and hazards during PSPS events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, regularly soliciting feedback to enhance processes and ensure the value of work products.
  • Maintain a high level of stakeholder satisfaction by ensuring client needs are met and understanding how deliverables will be utilized.
  • Facilitate effective communication with stakeholders, adapting messages to suit the audience, including ensuring technical reports meet regulatory detail requirements.
  • Present findings to stakeholders up to the Director level, securing acceptance and approval as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit responses to Notices of Violation (NOV) and draft/edit associated data requests.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Seven (7) or more years of job-related experience, including at least two (2) years in utility incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in interpreting complex and voluminous data, translating it into actionable insights and visual representations.
  • Experience in data collection and review, focusing on identifying anomalies and ensuring data integrity.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with others.
  • Experience in project management, particularly in handling multiple concurrent tasks aligned with organizational objectives.
