Department Overview
The Electric Asset & Regulatory team is tasked with overseeing the engineering and strategic planning of the electric system, focusing on asset strategy and risk management across various asset categories including transmission, distribution, and substations. This centralized, risk-informed methodology enables PG&E to effectively manage electric risks, asset integrity, system health, interconnections, and overall performance by employing standardized practices, prioritization, and program oversight, while utilizing insights gained from inspections and asset data to guide asset management decisions.
Position Summary
PG&E is in search of a seasoned business professional to join the Electric Incident Investigations (EII) Team as a Senior Incident Investigator. The EII team is responsible for documenting Electric Incidents (EIRs) to the regulatory body, investigating these incidents to ascertain their causes, and implementing corrective or preventive measures to avert future occurrences. Additionally, the team investigates ignition incidents and plays a crucial role in the Intelligence & Investigations section of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events.
This role will be highly visible within PG&E leadership and will contribute to various facets of the EII's mission. An ideal candidate will possess strong technical writing skills, be well-organized, motivated, inquisitive, a consensus builder, and have a keen understanding of the broader context of their work.
This position is hybrid, requiring work from a remote location and onsite based on business needs.
Compensation
PG&E provides a salary range that reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position at the time of posting. This range is specific to the job's locality. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including skills, education, certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. While the successful candidate is likely to be placed around the midpoint of the range, final decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Salary Range:
Minimum: $105,000
Midpoint: $137,000
Maximum: $169,000
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit incident reports to regulatory authorities and PG&E Electric Operations leadership, along with drafting and editing data requests.
- Compose detailed technical analyses of electric incidents.
- Oversee investigations and analysis projects with minimal supervision, from initial request to presentation of findings and responses to data inquiries, ensuring timely completion.
- Collaborate with leadership from other PG&E departments involved in the investigation process to define and maintain departmental roles and responsibilities.
- Engage consistently with Electric Operations partner organizations, including legal counsel and other key stakeholders.
- Extract and analyze data from various PG&E systems, synthesizing findings and recommendations.
- Support the Electric Incident Reporting hotline by providing on-call assistance and submitting initial incident reports.
- Assist in the activation of the Emergency Operations Center and/or Regional Emergency Center, which may involve documenting damages and hazards during PSPS events.
- Foster relationships with stakeholders and regularly solicit feedback to enhance processes and ensure the work product delivers intended value.
- Maintain a high level of stakeholder satisfaction by ensuring client needs are met and understanding how work products will be utilized.
- Ensure effective communication with stakeholders, tailoring messages to the audience, including technical reports and data requests for regulators.
- Present findings to stakeholders up to the Director level, securing acceptance or approval as necessary.
- Prepare and submit Notices of Violation responses to regulatory authorities, along with drafting and editing associated data requests.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience.
Desired Qualifications
- 7+ years of job-related experience, including 2+ years in utility incident investigations.
- Ability to interpret complex, high-volume, and sometimes conflicting information and translate it into actionable insights and visualizations.
- Experience in data collection and review, focusing on identifying anomalies and enhancing data integrity.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with others.
- Proven ability to plan and prioritize work to align with organizational goals.
