Job Overview

SUMMARY: The Procurement Coordinator at Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA) collaborates with various stakeholders including the Nourish Food Services Director, Kitchen Supervisor, Student Engagement Liaison, Production Team, and local agricultural producers to ensure effective management of seasonal, locally sourced ingredients for Nourish NCSA's culinary offerings.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management of Kitchen Operations:

  • Oversee the receipt of availability lists, deliveries, and the timely organization of local ingredients within Nourish's inventory.
  • Facilitate communication among all Nourish Team members and local producers to ensure accurate and timely information exchange.
  • Engage in the washing, preparation, and storage of local products.
  • Contribute to menu development alongside the Food Services Director, Kitchen Supervisor, and Student Engagement Liaison by utilizing available local ingredients.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of local products in the kitchen, adhering to sanitation standards and regulations.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of local product inventory.
  • Possess basic mathematical skills for measurement and inventory management.
  • Interpret various documents including safety guidelines and operational manuals.
  • Address practical challenges and adapt to a variety of situations.
  • Understand and follow diverse instructions provided in various formats.

Team Engagement:

  • Recruit and collaborate with local growers and producers.
  • Organize regular gatherings for local producers to enhance procurement processes for Nourish NCSOTA.
  • Work with the Nourish Food Services Director and Kitchen Supervisor to develop standard operating procedures and inventory order guides.
  • Collaborate with the NCSOTA School Wellness Committee and administrative staff to organize community events such as farmer's markets.
  • Promote an inclusive work environment that values diverse identities and backgrounds.

Compliance and Safety Standards:

  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Commit to equity by ensuring local producers are respected and compensated fairly.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including students, staff, and community members.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions promptly.
  • Follow all guidelines outlined in the NCSOTA Employee Handbook.
  • Complete mandatory training within the specified timeframe upon employment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to learn and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Experience in local procurement settings such as farms, markets, or food cooperatives.
  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and certification in food handling.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and schedules.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle various tasks simultaneously.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work conditions include:

  • Regular exposure to varying humidity and noise levels.
  • Occasional proximity to moving machinery and exposure to chemicals.
  • Driving may be required for work-related tasks.

  • Intermediate proficiency in English.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all job-related matters.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Understanding of HACCP Standard Operating Procedures.
