Job Overview

SUMMARY: The Procurement Coordinator at Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA) collaborates with various stakeholders including the Nourish Food Services Director, Kitchen Supervisor, Student Engagement Liaison, Production Team, and local agricultural producers to ensure effective management of seasonal, locally sourced ingredients for Nourish NCSA's culinary offerings.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Kitchen Operations Oversight:

  • Manage and coordinate the receipt of availability lists, deliveries, and the timely preparation and storage of all local products in Nourish's inventory.
  • Facilitate communication among all Nourish Team members and local producers to ensure information is shared promptly and accurately.
  • Oversee and assist in the cleaning, preparation, and storage of local ingredients.
  • Engage in menu development alongside the Food Services Director, Kitchen Supervisor, and Student Engagement Liaison to effectively utilize available local products.
  • Ensure the kitchen maintains cleanliness and organization of local products, adhering to sanitation standards and regulations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of local product inventory at all times.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic arithmetic operations and the ability to interpret various documents such as safety protocols and operational manuals.
  • Address practical challenges and navigate a variety of concrete variables in diverse situations.
  • Comprehend and follow various instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or electronic formats.

Team Engagement:

  • Recruit and collaborate with local growers and producers.
  • Organize and facilitate gatherings for local producers to enhance procurement processes for Nourish NCSOTA.
  • Work with the Nourish Food Services Director and Kitchen Supervisor to develop standard operating procedures and ordering guidelines for local product inventory.
  • Collaborate with the Nourish Food Services Director, NCSOTA School Wellness Committee, and administrative staff to plan and execute an annual community farmer's market.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment that values diverse identities and backgrounds.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations, including food handling, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
  • Promote a commitment to excellence and equity by ensuring local growers and producers are respected and compensated fairly for their goods and services.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including producers, students, staff, administration, parents, and community members.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions immediately.
  • Comply with all guidelines outlined in the NCSOTA Employee Handbook.
  • Complete mandatory training within the specified timeframe and annually thereafter.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Willingness to learn and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Experience in a role focused on local procurement, such as in a farm, CSA, farmer's market, natural foods co-op, or farm-to-table establishment.
  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and certification in food handling and sanitation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple orders, schedules, menus, and inventory effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoor and outdoor work settings.
  • Occasional exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
  • Exposure to various noise levels and potentially hazardous materials.
  • Driving may be required to perform job duties.
