Local Sourcing Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Procurement Coordinator at NCSOTA collaborates with various stakeholders, including the Nourish Food Services Director, Kitchen Supervisor, and local agricultural producers, to ensure the effective management of seasonal and locally sourced ingredients for the Nourish NCSA culinary programs.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Kitchen Operations Oversight:
Manage the reception of availability lists, deliveries, and the timely organization of local inventory.

Facilitate communication among Nourish Team members and local suppliers to ensure seamless information flow.

Participate in the cleaning, preparation, and storage of local produce.

Engage in menu development alongside the Food Services Director and Kitchen Supervisor, focusing on available local ingredients.

Ensure the kitchen maintains cleanliness and organization of local products, adhering to health and safety standards.

Maintain an up-to-date understanding of local product inventory.

Demonstrate proficiency in basic arithmetic and the ability to interpret various documents related to safety and operational procedures.

Team Engagement:
Recruit and collaborate with local growers and producers.

Organize gatherings for local suppliers to enhance procurement processes for Nourish NCSOTA.

Work with the Nourish Food Services Director and Kitchen Supervisor to develop standard operating procedures and ordering guidelines for local inventory.


Collaborate with the NCSOTA School Wellness Committee and administrative staff to organize an annual community farmer's market.

Foster an inclusive work environment that values diverse identities and backgrounds.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
Ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations, including food handling and sanitation protocols.


Promote a commitment to excellence and equity by ensuring local producers are valued and compensated fairly for their goods and services.


Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including growers, students, staff, administration, parents, and community members.

Respond to all forms of communication related to school activities.

Report any unsafe working conditions promptly.

Comply with all guidelines outlined in the NCSOTA Employee Handbook.

Complete mandatory training within the designated timeframe and annually thereafter.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated willingness to learn and work diligently.

Experience in settings that support local procurement, such as farms, farmer's markets, or food cooperatives.

Skills and Qualifications:
Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.

Excellent interpersonal abilities to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team.

Familiarity with food safety regulations and certification in food handling and sanitation (e.g., ServSafe).

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and inventory effectively.

Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and handle various tasks simultaneously.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Indoor and outdoor work settings

Occasional exposure to seasonal weather conditions

Regular exposure to varying humidity and noise levels.

Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles.

Driving may be required as part of job duties.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Intermediate proficiency in English

Strong customer service and public relations skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality in all job aspects

Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions

Understanding of HACCP Standard Operating Procedures

Fingerprint and background clearance required

Valid Tuberculosis clearance and automobile insurance

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent use of hands and arms

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds

Standing and walking for extended periods

Hearing and speaking to exchange information
