Position Title: DHS Program Assistant

Department: Arkansas Department of Human Services

Salary: $32,405.00

Position Overview: The DHS Program Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering social services to program beneficiaries and offering support to families. This role adheres to both state and federal regulations as well as agency policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructs and demonstrates essential living skills to clients, including budgeting, cooking, menu planning, housekeeping, and childcare.
  • Facilitates transportation for clients and family members to medical, dental, educational, and counseling appointments.
  • Assists clients in identifying resources by reaching out to relevant organizations or agencies for support.
  • Contributes to the development and oversight of behavior plans, parenting classes, and maintains detailed records of actions taken on behalf of clients and families.
  • Engages in training clients in employment skills by providing necessary materials, monitoring work tasks, and offering direct assistance as required.
  • Participates in staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Schedules, oversees, and documents family interactions.
  • Handles clerical tasks, including answering calls, routing inquiries, receiving client referrals, typing documents, filing, and managing correspondence.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of one year of experience in a social services-related field. Additional qualifications may be considered based on agency requirements.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Familiarity with agency and community resource organizations.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
  • Ability to effectively teach or model functional living skills.
  • Capability to observe and assess client interactions and case progress.
  • Strong interviewing skills for data collection and evaluation.
  • Ability to prepare and present information both orally and in writing.
