Position Overview: The DHS Program Assistant plays a vital role in delivering essential social services to individuals and families in need. This role is guided by both state and federal regulations, as well as organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructs and demonstrates essential life skills to clients, including budgeting, cooking, and child care.
  • Facilitates transportation for clients and their families to various appointments, including medical and educational.
  • Assists clients in accessing community resources by connecting them with relevant organizations.
  • Contributes to the development and monitoring of behavior plans and parenting classes.
  • Engages in training clients on employment skills, providing necessary materials and direct support.
  • Documents and oversees family visitations, ensuring proper scheduling and monitoring.
  • Handles clerical tasks such as answering calls, processing referrals, and maintaining records.
  • Performs additional duties as required by the department.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with one year of experience in a related social services field. Additional relevant education or experience may be considered.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Familiarity with agency and community resources.
  • Proficiency in applicable computer applications.
  • Ability to teach functional living skills effectively.
  • Strong observational and evaluative skills.
