Role Summary:
We are in search of a skilled and knowledgeable Fisheries Economist to collaborate with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its associated branches. This position involves conducting in-depth economic and sociocultural research to evaluate the benefits and costs linked to the management of living marine resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings to identify suitable methodologies. Develop and address research inquiries that align with NOAA's stewardship objectives.
  • Integrate current economic models of fisheries into comprehensive bio-economic frameworks.
  • Enhance the realism of bio-economic models by developing and econometrically parameterizing sub-models.
  • Contribute to NOAA's modeling initiatives by improving software and participating in team discussions. Attend relevant council meetings to grasp management requirements.
  • Engage with the scientific community through various organizational meetings and disseminate research findings through technical writing and presentations at scientific gatherings.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Ph.D. in Fisheries, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, Applied Economics, Applied Social Science, or a related discipline, or a Master's degree with relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment delivering comprehensive research outcomes.
  • Expertise in formulating research questions and executing quantitative analyses to derive solutions.
  • Proficiency in R and familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Understanding of fisheries or natural resource management principles.
  • Experience with Unix systems.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a record of publishing scientific work and presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
