Position Overview

At Orchard, we are dedicated to enhancing our support for NOAA through our specialized expertise in marine science and ecosystem management. We are currently looking for a skilled GIS Analyst to join our efforts in advancing sustainability initiatives.

Location: Remote opportunities available.

Note: This role is dependent on contract award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • GIS Analysis and Support: Conduct comprehensive GIS analyses, coordinate efforts related to marine resources, and produce informative maps and datasets for stakeholders in fishery management and research.
  • Development of Tools and Applications: Create web-based applications to enhance communication and accessibility of GIS data. Automate routine GIS analyses to streamline processes and develop tools for stakeholders to manage anonymized GIS data.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed documentation including metadata and technical reports. Generate monthly progress updates and a final report summarizing data collection and analysis.
  • Data Analysis: Perform time series and geospatial analyses to understand community reliance on fisheries, and facilitate access to spatial resources for collaborators.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in relevant fields such as Geography, Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, or Environmental Science.
  • Proven experience with GIS software, particularly ArcView or similar tools.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience in managing relational databases.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R and Python.
  • Demonstrated project management skills in complex scientific programs.
  • Excellent communication abilities to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Adaptability to shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Experience with NOAA or similar governmental organizations is a plus.
  • Advanced skills in cartographic design and map production are preferred.
  • Experience in analyzing socioeconomic data in environmental policy contexts is advantageous.
