How You'll Make an Impact
Team Collaboration
Assist in application support during and beyond standard business hours.
Swiftly investigate issues and service requests. Engage in collaborative discussions and propose effective solutions.
Oversee production deployments, which may occur during evenings and weekends, and contribute to post-deployment application validation. Quickly diagnose, assess, and resolve any emerging issues.
Lead and participate in team meetings and feature discussions.

Software Design and Architecture
Formulate foundational designs for both new and existing features.

Develop solutions that are efficient, scalable, consistent, and maintainable, aligning with the available scope, time, and budget.

Engage in code reviews within the team and across other teams to ensure that implementations meet established goals, standards, and best practices.

Deliver software that fulfills requirements by gaining a comprehensive understanding of the product area to propose optimal long-term solutions.
Write code that is testable at all levels (unit, integration, and end-to-end).
Assist in enhancing unit test coverage.
Review requirements and provide timely, constructive feedback for improvement.

Ask pertinent questions to ensure requirements are feasible, implementations are efficient, and designs align with the technical direction established by your team and architects.

Participate in the estimation and prioritization of project requests.
Build relationships with architects, software engineers, quality assurance engineers, and product owners to collaborate on design and delivery decisions.

Project Implementation
Contribute to prioritizing performance enhancements and addressing technical debt.
Understand common security vulnerabilities and best practices as defined by architects to mitigate security risks.
Design and develop technical solutions across all environments, leading to increased throughput. Your code will serve as a learning example for others.
Product Proficiency
Gain a deep understanding of your team's product domain and act as an internal subject matter expert.
Possess a foundational knowledge of multiple product domains.

Effectively communicate application behavior and technology beyond the development department in both technical and business contexts.

Leadership
Assist others in completing tasks to achieve goals; step into various roles to ensure project deadlines are met.

Serve as a mentor, facilitating the onboarding of new software engineers to ensure they have the necessary tools and knowledge for quick productivity.

Participate in the interview process and provide valuable recommendations for hiring.
Offer technical and domain guidance to both internal and external team members.
Lead features or components through the entire software deployment lifecycle, including integration, customer feedback, release, and support phases.
Recommend methods for distributing work across your team to enhance development efficiency.
Function effectively in a cross-functional team environment to ensure successful execution and delivery of project commitments.
Demonstrate expertise in a domain, evidenced by others seeking your peer reviews, advice, and problem-solving capabilities.
Communicate priorities and dependencies across teams to ensure successful execution and delivery of commitments.
Foster relationships with quality assurance engineers, architects, product owners, support, management, configuration management, database administrators, and others.

Experience You'll Bring

  • 6 years of relevant experience typical in this role
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
Experience with tools and programming languages as defined by development managers specific to their teams
Strong knowledge in software development fundamentals and processes, design, documentation, testing, and tools
Effective in a distributed team environment
Strong oral and written communication skills
Hands-on experience with automated testing tools to assist with unit testing

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position.

Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.

Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
