Access Coordinator for Orthopedic Surgical Hospital

Job Summary:

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Access Coordinator III to join our team at the Orthopedic Surgical Hospital (TOSH). As a key member of our front desk team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, coordinating appointments, and ensuring seamless patient flow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, reschedule, coordinate, and/or cancel appointments with patients and healthcare providers
  • Create new patient charts and access electronic medical records as needed
  • Verify patient insurance and benefits, and explain coverage to patients
  • Request outside medical records and conduct pre-registration as necessary
  • Work assigned work queues for scheduling, registration, and billing
  • Input and update accurate patient information in our electronic health record system
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure excellent patient care
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; three years of experience in customer service, registration, billing, or scheduling in a healthcare environment preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers and electronic health record systems
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and insurance concepts
