Position Overview:

The Access Coordinator III plays a vital role in supporting transplant coordinators and other healthcare professionals within a structured multidisciplinary team. This position is essential for the assessment, treatment, and ongoing care of patients requiring transplantation and associated services. The Access Coordinator III ensures efficient departmental operations and effective communication while managing multiple concurrent requests from transplant service personnel, referring physicians, patients, and other healthcare providers, all while upholding a high level of confidentiality.

Specialty Focus:

This role will focus on a designated specialty area (either kidney or liver) and will receive training tailored to those specific responsibilities in accordance with established guidelines. Additionally, the Access Coordinator III will be cross-trained to fulfill the duties of all administrative roles within the transplant department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments using hospital systems, ensuring timely notifications.
  • Process walk-in patients, create new patient records, and access systems for necessary orders.
  • Complete Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABN), schedule surgeries, and conduct tests as required.
  • Verify insurance coverage and explain benefits by checking patient eligibility; gather external medical records as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient care plans and document daily and monthly statistics.
  • Collect payments and issue receipts, managing the reconciliation of funds and daily deposits.
  • Provide financial counseling to patients regarding hospital discounts and payment options.
  • Obtain authorizations for radiology tests and procedures as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental functions.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent educational background.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in customer service or healthcare settings.
  • Ability to perform all duties associated with Access Coordinator I and II roles.
  • Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology.
  • General knowledge of office equipment, including printers and scanners.
  • Strong communication and telephone etiquette skills.
  • Excellent customer service capabilities.
