Job Summary:

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Access Coordinator II to provide comprehensive support for patient care activities. This role will work under supervision and be responsible for coordinating appointments, referrals, consults, tests, and procedures, as well as checking in and registering patients, collecting payments, and verifying insurance coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, reschedule, coordinate, and cancel appointments using hospital systems
  • Conduct pre-registration as needed and input accurate patient information
  • Create new patient charts and access systems for orders as appropriate
  • Conduct insurance verification and benefit explanation by running eligibility on patients, requesting outside records, and gathering outside medical records from referrals as needed
  • Meet, greet, and assist the public, answer telephones in a professional and friendly manner
  • Deal with conflicts in a positive and professional manner using careful listening and negotiation skills to resolve disagreements
  • Consistently utilize communication devices and keep accurate records as required
  • Demonstrate effective service recovery skills
  • Attend required hours of training and/or in-services
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in the orientation and/or training of new staff
  • Participate in annual educational needs and assessment
  • Maintain required job skill competencies and complete skill assessment annually
  • Complete and maintain documentation of continuing education hours annually
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School or GED with Two (2) years of customer service or healthcare experience
  • Good communication skills, basic proficiency with computers (preferably MS Office), excellent telephone etiquette skills, and general knowledge of office machines including printers and scanners
  • Excellent Customer service skills
  • Knowledge in basic medical terminology, medical terminology within Three (3) months of hire
