Position Overview
The University of Texas at Arlington is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Research Scientist Assistant I. This position is integral to our ongoing research initiatives focused on advanced and sustainable construction materials for infrastructure applications.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the exploration of innovative engineered materials tailored for infrastructure needs.
- Conduct in-depth research on sustainable construction materials, employing characterization techniques such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman Spectroscopy.
- Support efforts aimed at enhancing the durability and sustainability of next-generation structural materials.
- Engage in experimental, analytical, and computational modeling of infrastructure materials.
- Provide guidance to PhD students on their research endeavors and ensure adherence to safety protocols in the laboratory.
- Actively participate in collaborative research projects across disciplines.
- Serve as a liaison between materials science departments and the Center for Advanced Construction Materials (CACM), fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proficiency in materials characterization methods including XRD, SEM, and TGA.
- Familiarity with ASTM testing standards and procedures.

Preferred Skills
- Experience with computational modeling software relevant to materials science.
- Background in sustainable materials research.
- Knowledge of electrochemical testing methods and multiscale modeling techniques.
- Experience with nanoengineered materials and their applications in infrastructure.
- Prior experience in mentoring or assisting graduate students in research settings.

- Comprehensive understanding of advanced materials science principles, particularly at the nanoscale.
- Competence in operating and maintaining advanced materials testing equipment.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex data from multiscale experiments and models.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with students, faculty, and lab visitors.

Working Environment
The CACM laboratory is designed to ensure safety and efficiency, equipped with a variety of scientific instruments and materials that require careful handling. Adherence to safety protocols is mandatory, and employees must participate in regular safety training.
