We are looking for an Animal Care Technician I to become part of our Insourcing Solutions team.
As an Animal Care Technician I, your responsibilities will include ensuring the well-being of our research animals. Specific duties will encompass:
- Monitoring daily animal health and welfare through routine observations.
- Conducting animal husbandry tasks to uphold the quality and health of research animals, including daily checks of water bottles/automatic water lines and cages; providing suitable food and hydration; performing cage changes and cleaning as necessary; documenting health concerns according to standard operating procedures and specified protocols.
- Executing cage washing and sanitation tasks.
- Maintaining precise records of room logs, health case logs, animal breeding, and other support areas as mandated by the institution and facility.
- Performing rodent restraint, handling, and technical manipulation as directed by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian, which may include health case treatments, identification, genotyping, health surveillance sampling, and euthanasia.
- Receiving, inspecting, and organizing incoming animal shipments and supplies.
- Operating equipment and utilizing supplies in accordance with established guidelines.
- Carrying out general housekeeping duties and adhering to safety protocols.
- Providing study support on non-invasive techniques, which may include animal fasting, body weight monitoring, food and water measurements, mating, and plug checks.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The following are the minimum requirements for the Animal Care Technician I position:
- A high school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.), or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's degree in an animal or life sciences field is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of relevant laboratory animal experience is preferred.
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level/CALAS is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience outlined above.
The compensation for this role ranges from $20 to $24 per hour. Please note that salaries may vary within this range based on factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and locations.
