Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc. (SGA) is seeking a Laboratory Animal Care Specialist for a CONTRACT opportunity with one of our esteemed Healthcare partners.

Key Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Animal Care Specialist will oversee the daily management and welfare of laboratory animals, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and guidelines. Primary duties include:

  • Maintaining cleanliness of animal enclosures and environments.
  • Providing food and hydration according to established protocols.
  • Ensuring proper upkeep of equipment and animal housing facilities in line with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducting record-keeping tasks such as monitoring animal health, maintaining feeding logs, and documenting environmental conditions.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in animal handling or laboratory sanitation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate animal health information and maintain accurate records.
  • High school diploma or GED, with completion of training equivalent to the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician certification from AALAS, along with one year of relevant animal care experience; or a high school diploma with two years of experience in animal care for species relevant to the position; or a suitable combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with the dietary, housing, and spatial needs of various laboratory animal species used in biomedical research.
  • Skills to identify animal health issues and ensure regulatory compliance, reporting findings to veterinary staff and researchers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sanitation practices and cleaning agents, including the operation of cage washers and autoclaves.
  • Understanding of federal regulations and guidelines from relevant licensing agencies.
  • Certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) is advantageous.
