We are looking for an Animal Care Specialist I to become a part of our Insourcing Solutions team.

As the ** Animal Care Specialist I**, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the well-being of our research animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily health and welfare assessments of animals.
  • Perform husbandry tasks to maintain the quality and health of research animals, including daily checks of water supplies and cages, providing adequate food and hydration, and executing cage changes and cleaning as necessary.
  • Carry out cage washing and sanitation duties.
  • Maintain precise records of room logs, health case logs, breeding information, and support areas as mandated by institutional and facility requirements.
  • Execute rodent handling and technical procedures as directed by the on-site Supervisor or facility veterinarian, including health treatments, identification, genotyping, health surveillance sampling, and euthanasia.
  • Receive and inspect incoming animal shipments and supplies.
  • Utilize equipment and supplies in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks and adhere to safety protocols.
  • May assist in non-invasive study support techniques, including animal fasting, weight measurements, food and water intake monitoring, mating observations, and plug checks.
  • Complete other assigned duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

The following are the minimum qualifications for the Animal Care Specialist I position:

  • A high school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.), or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's degree in an animal or life sciences field is preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant laboratory animal experience is preferred.
  • AALAS certification at the ALAT level or CALAS certification is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered as a satisfactory substitute for the specific qualifications listed above.

The compensation for this role ranges from $20 to $24 per hour. Please note that salaries may vary within this range based on factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. The work schedule typically follows a Monday through Friday format from 7 AM to 3:30 PM, with rotating weekends and holidays as needed.
