ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Marine Electrical Technician is tasked with the upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of all electronic and electrical systems aboard the vessel. This role also involves maintaining comprehensive records of all maintenance and repairs performed. The technician will be required to input this information into the maintenance management software. Additionally, the technician is responsible for managing all electrical spare parts and tools necessary for daily operations.

This position operates under the direct oversight of the Chief Engineer.

  • Overseeing all electronic and electrical systems
  • Diagnosing and rectifying issues with electronic and electrical systems
  • Keeping detailed records of repairs and maintenance, and entering data into the electronic maintenance system
  • Managing all electrical spare parts and tools required
  • Regularly maintaining and calibrating all sensors and instrumentation
  • Ensuring that all instrumentation certifications on the vessel are up to date
  • Performing additional related tasks as assigned
  • Engaging in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with State/Federal regulations and enhance existing Company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial electrician
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of AC motors
  • Familiarity with variable frequency AC drives
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and medium voltage systems
  • A solid background with medium voltage generators and engine control systems
  • Preferred high voltage certification
  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and computer systems
  • Understanding of HVAC systems
  • Ability to adhere to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Capability to work effectively and efficiently
  • Willingness to work away from home at remote project sites for extended periods.
  • Reliability and motivation.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Strong communication skills with co-workers and supervisors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable workplace accommodations.


The individual must also be capable of wearing and properly utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required in specific work areas.

This includes hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, respirators, ear protection, steel-toed boots, personal flotation devices (PFDs), or other protective gear as necessary based on the work environment.

Furthermore, an Electrician must also be able to:

  • Move around the job site, which may involve varying heights and access conditions.
  • Stand, stoop, twist, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive movements with feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back.
  • Lift and carry up to 30lbs independently; anything over 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional assistance.
  • Push and pull with a peak force of 150lbs.
  • Climb stairs and/or vertical ladders of at least 6ft in height.
  • Work in confined spaces and/or at elevated heights.
  • Adapt to temperature variations, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid environments, loud noises, and vibrations.
