ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Marine Electrical Technician is tasked with the upkeep, diagnostics, and repair of all electronic and electrical systems aboard the vessel. This role also involves maintaining comprehensive records of all maintenance and repairs performed, which must be entered into the electronic maintenance management system. The technician will oversee the inventory of electrical spare parts and tools necessary for daily operations.

This position operates under the direct guidance of the Chief Engineer.

  • Ensure the functionality of all electronic and electrical systems
  • Diagnose and rectify issues with electronic and electrical equipment
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance and repairs, inputting data into the electronic maintenance system
  • Manage the inventory of electrical spare parts and tools
  • Regularly maintain and calibrate sensors and instrumentation
  • Confirm that all instrumentation certifications on the vessel are up to date
  • Carry out additional related tasks as assigned
  • Engage in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with State/Federal regulations and enhance existing Company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial electrician
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of AC motors
  • Familiarity with variable frequency AC drives
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and medium voltage systems
  • A solid background with medium voltage generators and engine control systems
  • Preferred high voltage certification
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and computer systems
  • Understanding of HVAC systems
  • Ability to adhere to safety regulations and protocols
  • Capability to work efficiently and effectively
  • Willingness to work at remote project sites for extended periods
  • Reliability and motivation
  • Eligibility to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues and supervisors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable workplace accommodations.


The individual must also be capable of wearing and properly utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in required areas.

This includes hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFDs), or other protective gear as mandated by the work environment.

Additionally, an Electrician must be able to:

  • Move between various locations on the job site, which may involve different heights and access conditions.
  • Stand, stoop, twist, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive movements with feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs independently; anything over 30 lbs up to 60 lbs will require assistance.
  • Push and pull with a peak force of 150 lbs.
  • Climb stairs and/or vertical ladders exceeding 6 ft in height.
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
  • Adapt to varying temperatures, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dust, moisture, loud noises, and vibrations.
