POSITION OVERVIEW

The Vice President of Strategic Development is a highly experienced brand strategist and client-facing leader with a proven history of managing intricate accounts and proposals. This role requires outstanding skills in strategic narrative construction and the capability to steer insight generation and campaign execution. With a knack for rapidly establishing personal credibility and positioning themselves as a strategic authority, they thrive in tackling new and potentially more demanding accounts, spearheading new business initiatives, and participating in pitch presentations. Recognized as a leader within the organization, they are accountable for the oversight and professional growth of various talent levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Brand Strategy Development

  • Proficient in strategic methodologies, agency workflows, and pharmaceutical compliance standards.
  • Transforms market trends, customer insights, and a profound understanding of disease states into actionable brand strategies and solutions.
  • Exhibits exceptional storytelling capabilities and a distinctive voice in written strategic communication.
  • Leads new business initiatives and participates in pitch presentations.

Client Relationship Management

  • Demonstrates strategic leadership and facilitates extensive and tailored client workshops and brainstorming sessions.
  • Influences the development of strategic perspectives and recommendations both internally and with senior clients.
  • Acts as a consultant to clients on market research design, methodologies, and analysis.
  • Possesses a strong strategic voice, guiding clarity, direction, and leadership in internal and client meetings.

Collaborative Engagement

  • Oversees strategic planning duties across multiple brands and integrated accounts with autonomy and expertise.
  • Collaborates with other agency departments to ensure the effective application of insights and strategies.
  • Talent Development
  • Supervises and nurtures junior staff, delegating tasks and responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Responsible for recruitment and staffing decisions, as well as comprehensive talent management (including feedback delivery, performance reviews, and general management).

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Demonstrates an expert-level understanding of the strategic planning fundamentals related to disease states, indications, customer dynamics, and the science of assigned brands.
  • Leads strategic planning initiatives on a variety of accounts, both large and small, while supporting senior planners on larger integrated accounts.
  • Oversees the complete suite of brand strategy deliverables (including positioning, foundational elements, creative briefs, messaging strategies, and tactical planning) while mentoring junior team members.
  • Utilizes market research expertise to drive insight generation and ideation, uncovering strategic opportunities to enhance creative output.
  • Exhibits proficiency in planning tools and core competencies, ensuring proper application of positioning, insight generation, and creative brief development.
  • Leads new business efforts, including insight gathering, storytelling, strategy formulation, and execution.
  • Facilitates strategic leadership in complex client workshops and brainstorming sessions.
  • Directly supervises Director and Associate Director levels on assigned brands, providing mentorship and guidance as necessary.
  • Regularly meets with direct and indirect reports to proactively manage their career progression.
  • Accountable for hiring, staffing, career development, and comprehensive talent management for the direct team.
  • Exemplifies leadership, empathy, and professionalism in all communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 8 years in brand strategy or market research within an agency environment is preferred.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Proficient in software relevant to client and agency processes, including Microsoft Word, Teams, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of research tools (including databases such as SERMO and Datamonitor).
  • Excellent understanding of social media platforms.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical abilities; capable of synthesizing insights and data from various sources to address challenges.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, adhere to timelines, and maintain organization.
  • Ability to leverage AI platforms to enhance brand needs and strategic deliverables.
  • Comprehensive understanding of agency offerings, services, products, and solutions.
  • Expertise in brand/pharmaceutical marketing and promotional strategies and trends.
