Position Title: Community Engagement Coordinator

Department: Community Care & Advocacy

Reports to: Outreach Manager

Compensation: $18-$20 per hour

Work Schedule: Standard hours from Tuesday to Saturday, 9 AM to 5:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends required

FLSA Status: Hourly, 40 hours per week


Position Summary: The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in providing educational resources and support to the community through various outreach initiatives, including Paw Plus Clinics, Kibble Connection, and humane education programs such as Wagging Tales Teacher-led Curriculum (TLC) and the Kindness for Paws art exhibition. This position collaborates closely with the Outreach Manager and consults with the Community Care & Advocacy Director to enhance community engagement efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with community members and partners.
  • Organize and oversee the annual Kindness for Paws art exhibition.
  • Manage daily operations of the MD SPCA's TLC program.
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies for new educators in the TLC program.
  • Assist in the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of humane education programs by improving lesson plans, supplementary materials, presentations, and online resources.
  • Deliver informative presentations to community organizations, including schools and scout groups.
  • Provide information and resources related to Community Care & Advocacy and shelter programs.
  • Plan and coordinate Paw Plus Clinics in partnership with staff, volunteers, and community collaborators.
  • Represent the MD SPCA at community events, offering educational resources and support.
  • Support the operations of the Kibble Connection food pantry, including managing donations and distributing resources to the community.
  • Engage with the community in meaningful ways, actively listening to feedback on how to improve services.
  • Contribute positively to the team culture and community environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in managing and delivering educational programs or similar initiatives is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including children and seniors.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Must comply with all guidelines outlined in the MD SPCA's Employee Handbook.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Capability to operate larger vehicles, such as vans, as necessary.
  • Successful completion of a background and fingerprint check is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is essential, with approximately 45% of work hours dedicated to evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including handling animals and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and reaching are required.
  • This role may involve exposure to animals, animal waste, and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites.
  • The work environment typically has a moderate noise level.
