Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our team at St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing support services to families enrolled in our Sarah's Hope Family Shelter.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Services
    • Engage with clients to identify their needs and preferences for training and other services.
    • Collaborate with the Case Management Team to plan training offerings that best support the goals of clients.
    • Identify and engage with partner agencies and community resources to deliver onsite educational and support services.
    • Develop and lead mental health and support groups, as well as educational offerings on financial literacy and housing readiness.
    • Function as part of the larger team responsible for achieving target goals of improving safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families.
    • Coordinate and facilitate Parent Cafes and other support groups.
  • Volunteers and In-Kind Donations
    • Recruit, schedule, retain, and manage volunteers at Sarah's Hope.
    • Support a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers.
    • Manage volunteer issues, including behavior, conflicts, and attendance.
    • Maintain the Volgistics database of volunteers and community partners, track volunteer hours, and attend monthly meetings.
    • Coordinate volunteer recognition activities.
    • Communicate regularly with the Development Department to promote activities.
    • Solicit in-kind donations for the shelter program and ensure resources are properly allocated and utilized.
  • Secondary Responsibilities
    • Promote programs and services offered throughout SVDP and provide guidance and feedback to program leadership.
    • Promote an atmosphere of care, respect, and support among guests, volunteers, and staff.
    • Assist with and attend special events as necessary.
    • Uphold the vision, mission, and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
    • Meet regularly with supervisor and attend all staff meetings and other meetings as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience working with persons who are materially poor and/or homeless.
  • Associate's Degree with relevant years of experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work with persons of all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, behavior management, and/or conflict resolution.
  • Understanding and respect for client confidentiality.
  • Good organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
