Position Overview
The Community Outreach Specialist for Harm Reduction is an integral member of the harm reduction team at Behavioral Health System Baltimore (BHSB). This role focuses on delivering outreach, education, and advocacy in communities significantly affected by substance use and overdose incidents. The position is available for both full-time and part-time candidates and reports directly to a designated supervisor within the Bmore POWER initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in required meetings, including:
    • Mandatory - Weekly team meetings,
    • Mandatory - Organizational staff meetings, and
    • Optional - Information sharing sessions to enhance understanding of organizational goals.
  • Engage in harm reduction outreach activities, which include:
    • Assisting team members with the setup and breakdown of outreach sites.
    • Adhering to safety protocols and directives from site leaders and coordinators.
    • Reporting any concerns or issues to the appropriate supervisory team promptly.
    • Interacting with the public in various settings to provide education on overdose prevention and harm reduction strategies.
    • Distributing naloxone and other essential harm reduction supplies.
    • Connecting individuals with behavioral health services and resources.
    • Collaborating with team members to enhance outreach effectiveness.
  • Complete necessary documentation related to outreach activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare outreach kits as directed.
  • Represent BHSB at community meetings and workgroups aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to promote harm reduction principles.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment by upholding the organization's values of Integrity, Equity, Innovation, Collaboration, and Quality.

Qualifications
  • Experience or familiarity with substance use issues.
  • Understanding of harm reduction methodologies and services.
  • Commitment to working with individuals affected by substance use.
  • Demonstrated dedication to cultural humility and social justice.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and virtual environment.
  • Willingness to adhere to a structured work schedule.

Travel Requirements
This position may require local travel for meetings and outreach activities. Access to reliable transportation is essential.
