Position Overview
The Community Outreach Specialist for Harm Reduction plays a vital role within the Bmore POWER initiative, collaborating with individuals who have firsthand experience with substance use. This position is focused on providing outreach, education, and advocacy aimed at reducing harm associated with drug use in the most affected communities. The role is available in both full-time and part-time capacities and reports directly to a designated supervisor within the Bmore POWER team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in both virtual and in-person meetings as necessary, including:
    • Mandatory - Weekly Bmore POWER All Staff meetings,
    • Mandatory - BHSB All Staff meetings, and
    • Optional but encouraged - BHSB Information Sharing meetings to enhance organizational knowledge.
  • Conduct outreach activities focused on harm reduction. During these activities:
    • Assist team members in setting up and dismantling outreach sites.
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and directives from the Site Leader and Outreach Coach.
    • Report any concerns or issues to the appropriate supervisory personnel promptly.
    • Engage with the public in various settings, including community hubs.
    • Educate individuals on overdose prevention and response.
    • Provide information on additional harm reduction strategies.
    • Distribute naloxone and other essential harm reduction supplies.
    • Guide individuals on accessing behavioral health services and resources.
    • Collaborate with team members to enhance outreach effectiveness.
  • Complete all necessary documentation related to outreach activities on the same day they occur.
  • Prepare outreach kits as directed.
  • Represent the organization in community groups and coalitions aligned with the mission.
  • Participate in discussions and educational opportunities regarding harm reduction.
  • Other responsibilities include:
    • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Upholding the values of Integrity, Equity, Innovation, Collaboration, and Quality.
    • Applying principles of equity and inclusion in all activities.
    • Assisting in disaster response efforts as needed.
    • Maintaining confidentiality and security of protected health information.
    • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Travel Requirements
This position may necessitate local travel for meetings and outreach activities. Access to reliable transportation is essential.

Compensation and Culture
