Position Overview

The Shift Leader plays a vital role in the operational success of Essen Bakery by supporting management in overseeing store activities during designated shifts. This role is essential in guiding the team and executing assigned administrative duties. The Shift Leader is responsible for deploying staff effectively and assigning tasks to ensure a welcoming atmosphere for our esteemed customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold the integrity and values of Essen Bakery, demonstrating a calm and professional demeanor during busy periods to maintain operational standards and set a positive example for team members.
  • Proactively assess customer and store needs by observing the environment and responding to cues, ensuring effective communication with staff and management to foster a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Manage staff scheduling based on anticipated business demands, ensuring adequate coverage while adhering to labor cost objectives.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of new team members, providing constructive feedback and encouragement to enhance performance.
  • Foster a positive work environment by recognizing changes in staff morale and performance, communicating concerns to management as necessary.
  • Encourage a culture of learning by delivering clear, respectful, and timely coaching to team members during shifts to promote operational excellence.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by maintaining a friendly demeanor and actively engaging with customers to meet their needs.
  • Build strong relationships with team members by understanding and addressing their individual motivations and concerns.
  • Direct staff to various workstations during shifts to optimize service speed and efficiency.
  • Ensure that team members meet cleanliness and service standards throughout their shifts.
  • Oversee store operations during scheduled shifts, organizing and monitoring opening and closing duties for staff.
  • Adhere to operational policies and procedures, including cash handling and safety protocols, to ensure a secure environment for all staff.
  • Conduct bank runs as necessary to maintain appropriate cash levels.
  • Open and close the café as required.
  • Follow policies regarding waste management and employee purchases, ensuring compliance among staff.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Deliver high-quality beverages consistently by adhering to recipe and presentation standards, while following health and safety guidelines.
  • Recognize and celebrate individual and team achievements using existing organizational tools and collaborating with management to develop new recognition methods.
  • Utilize operational tools effectively to achieve excellence during shifts.
  • Participate in scheduled team and management meetings, contributing suggestions for improvement.
  • Support fellow employees as needed to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service with a positive attitude.
  • A minimum of three years in a customer service role within a fast-paced restaurant, coffee shop, or bakery environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, and Canva; experience in document creation and marketing materials is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $18-$20 plus tips.
  • Complimentary primary healthcare benefits.
  • Paid Time Off accrued at a rate of 3 hours per payroll, redeemable after 28 weeks.
  • Potential for bonuses.
