The role of the Shift Leader is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of Essen Bakery during designated shifts. This position plays a crucial part in assisting management with daily operations while guiding the team and fulfilling various administrative responsibilities. The Shift Leader is essential in fostering a welcoming atmosphere for our esteemed customers by effectively deploying staff and assigning tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exemplifies integrity and professionalism, embodying the values and mission of Essen Bakery. Maintains composure during busy periods to uphold operational standards and serve as a role model for team members.
  • Proactively assesses customer and store needs, communicating essential information to staff to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Manages staff scheduling based on anticipated business demands, ensuring all roles are filled as required while adhering to labor cost guidelines.
  • Facilitates the hiring and training of new team members, providing constructive feedback and encouragement to promote effective performance.
  • Fosters a positive work environment by identifying changes in staff morale and performance, communicating these observations to management.
  • Creates a supportive learning atmosphere by delivering clear, respectful, and timely feedback to team members, aiming for operational excellence.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service by maintaining a friendly demeanor and addressing customer needs effectively.
  • Builds strong relationships with staff by understanding and addressing their individual motivations and concerns.
  • Directs staff to various tasks during shifts to optimize service speed and efficiency.
  • Ensures that cleanliness and service standards are consistently met by all team members.
  • Oversees store operations during scheduled shifts, organizing and monitoring opening and closing duties.
  • Adheres to operational policies and procedures, including cash handling and safety protocols, to ensure a secure environment for all staff.
  • Conducts bank runs as necessary to maintain appropriate cash levels.
  • Opens and closes the café as required.
  • Ensures compliance with policies regarding waste and employee purchases.
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Delivers high-quality beverages by following established recipes and presentation standards, while adhering to health and safety guidelines.
  • Recognizes and celebrates individual and team achievements through existing organizational tools and collaborates with management to develop new recognition methods.
  • Utilizes operational tools effectively to enhance performance during shifts.
  • Participates in scheduled team and management meetings, contributing suggestions for operational improvements.
  • Assists colleagues as needed to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service experience and a positive attitude.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a customer service role within a fast-paced environment, such as a restaurant, coffee shop, or bakery.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, and Canva; experience in document creation and marketing materials is advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities to manage and inspire a team.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $18-$20 plus tips.
  • Complimentary primary healthcare benefits.
  • Paid Time Off accrued at a rate of three hours per payroll, redeemable after 28 weeks.
  • Potential for performance-based bonuses.
