Position Overview

The role of the Shift Leader is pivotal to the success of Essen Bakery, as it involves supporting management in executing daily operations during designated shifts. This position is responsible for guiding the team and handling various administrative responsibilities. The Shift Leader ensures that staff members are equipped to deliver a delightful experience to our esteemed customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold the values and mission of Essen Bakery through integrity and professionalism, especially during peak times or unexpected situations, setting a positive example for the team.
  • Proactively assess customer and store needs by observing the environment and clientele, communicating essential information to staff to foster a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Manage staff scheduling in accordance with anticipated business levels, ensuring all roles are filled and labor costs are maintained.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of new team members, providing constructive feedback and encouragement to enhance performance.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture by identifying changes in staff morale and addressing them with management.
  • Encourage a learning environment by delivering clear, respectful, and timely feedback to team members to promote operational excellence.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by maintaining a friendly demeanor and addressing customer needs effectively.
  • Build strong relationships with team members by understanding their motivations and addressing their concerns.
  • Direct staff to various tasks during shifts to optimize service speed and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with cleanliness and service standards among staff members.
  • Oversee store operations during scheduled shifts, organizing and monitoring opening and closing tasks.
  • Adhere to operational policies regarding cash handling and safety to ensure a secure environment for all employees.
  • Conduct bank runs as needed to maintain appropriate cash levels.
  • Open and close the café as required.
  • Follow policies regarding waste management and employee purchases, ensuring compliance among staff.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Deliver high-quality beverages consistently by adhering to recipe and presentation standards while following health and safety guidelines.
  • Recognize and celebrate individual and team achievements through existing recognition tools and by collaborating with management for new initiatives.
  • Utilize operational tools effectively to achieve excellence during shifts.
  • Participate in scheduled team and management meetings, contributing suggestions for improvement.
  • Support fellow employees as needed to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service experience and a positive attitude.
  • A minimum of three years in a customer service role within a fast-paced food service environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, and Canva; experience in document creation and marketing materials is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.

Compensation

  • Hourly wage of $18-$20 plus tips.
  • Complimentary primary healthcare benefits.
  • Paid Time Off, accruing 3 hours per payroll, available after 28 weeks.
  • Potential for bonuses.
