Position Overview:
Reports directly to the Client Service Manager.

Responsible for educating newly hired phlebotomists in the laboratory, physician offices, or other relevant areas to adhere to established laboratory protocols and procedures during blood collection.

Aids in the upkeep of the training manual and disseminates updates in protocols and procedures to all phlebotomists.

Supports the Client Service Manager and CP Coordinator in addressing daily operational challenges and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities:


Collaborates with Phlebotomy Trainers, CP Coordinator, Client Service Manager, LIS Manager, and other Laboratory Supervisors to ensure effective training of new phlebotomists joining the laboratory services departments.·Creates personalized training schedules ·Partners with seasoned phlebotomists to deliver training in outpatient settings, on the floors, and in the Emergency Department.·Works with department supervisors and LIS manager to arrange training in Blood Bank, laboratory computer systems, and laboratory rotations.

Develops and maintains a comprehensive training syllabus·Keeps an updated checklist of essential phlebotomy tasks as dictated by evolving procedures and protocols.·Ensures all training documentation and checklists are properly filed in the respective phlebotomist folders.

·Observes training methods and progress §

Meets with phlebotomist trainers/trainees weekly to offer training support and guidance.§

Ensures new phlebotomists demonstrate proficiency in all areas by maintaining competency training records.§

Documents instances of re-training or inconsistent performance.§

Evaluates readiness of phlebotomists for advanced rotation.§

Facilitates question/answer sessions to address or resolve concerns.
Communicates progress and performance issues to the Client Service Manager.§

Reports on trainer/trainee success in adhering to laboratory protocols.§

Evaluates all aspects of phlebotomist's professional behavior.
Coordinates training on new phlebotomy products§

Creates and shares a training schedule for internal laboratory personnel §

Organizes training schedules for external sites in collaboration with the Client Service Manager.§

Generates sign-off lists to confirm completed training. Completes additional training functions and orientations§

Oversees phlebotomy training/rotation for all new laboratory staff within 6 months of hiring, including nurses and phlebotomy interns.§

Educates phlebotomists to take on training responsibilities.§

Ensures trainers adhere to laboratory protocols and procedures. Maintains a thorough understanding of laboratory operations and issues§

Stays informed about advancements in the field of Laboratory Medicine.§

Remains proficient in the use of computer systems §

Participates in departmental meetings§

Reviews policy and procedure manuals§

Examines lab correspondence and meeting minutes.


Attends laboratory in-services and seeks continuing education opportunities. Organizes daily phlebotomy operational requirements in conjunction with the Client Service Manager and Central Processing Coordinator·Streamlines workflow, prioritizes inpatient, outpatient, and ED tasks.·Coordinates daily phlebotomy assignments.·Identifies and assesses service challenges and reallocates staff to address issues.·Keeps the Client Service Manager updated on daily operational matters.·Provides feedback for annual performance evaluations of phlebotomy personnel.

Identifies areas for enhancement regarding the delivery of phlebotomy services and patient care issues, collaborating with the Client Service Manager to implement improvements.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of a Phlebotomy Training Course is preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of two years of phlebotomy experience required.

Prior training or teaching experience is preferred.

Licensure and/or Certification:

Phlebotomy certification is preferred.

Skills:

Strong teaching and instructional abilities.

Exceptional customer service skills.

Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English.

Computer skills required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Ability to maintain confidentiality.
