Aquatic Assistant

The Town of Concord, MA is looking for dedicated Aquatic Assistants.

The Aquatic Assistant Program is designed to cultivate talent by preparing candidates to become proficient and confident Water Safety Instructors.

Under the guidance of the Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Aquatic Assistant will support certified Water Safety Instructors during lessons focused on stroke refinement, water acclimatization, safety protocols, and other responsibilities assigned by the Water Safety Instructor (WSI).

This role will operate solely under the oversight of a certified Water Safety Instructor.
Hours and schedules will vary, with total hours ranging from 2 to 18 hours per week.

Compensation:

$15.00 per hour
.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Aquatic Assistant is tasked with aiding certified Water Safety Instructors during lessons that emphasize stroke development, water introduction, safety measures, and other duties as assigned by the Water Safety Instructor (WSI).

This position will operate solely under the supervision of a certified Water Safety Instructor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist aquatic instructors during swim classes.
  • Prepare for class by ensuring all equipment is available and ready prior to swim sessions. Assist in the storage of all equipment post-classes.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance consistent with the standards of the Beede and the Town of Concord.
  • Ensure a clean and safe aquatic environment at all times.
  • Engage in active listening with participants to build rapport, understand individual goals, and take the initiative to assist in achieving those objectives.
  • Attend mandatory monthly training sessions.
  • May be required to work one-on-one with individual students during group classes.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 15 years old (work permit required).
  • No prior experience necessary.
  • Completion of required Aquatic Assistant hours followed by WSI certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Basic understanding of aquatic facilities, procedures, and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of lifesaving techniques, CPR, and First Aid is essential. Ability to swim proficiently.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children and young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner while fairly enforcing facility rules and regulations.

Moderate physical effort is generally required, which involves frequent lifting of between 30 and 60 pounds.

Regularly required to walk, swim, stand, crouch, reach, crawl, climb, talk, sit, watch, and hear for extended periods.

Regularly required to use hands to manipulate objects.
Vision and hearing must be at or correctable to normal ranges.
