Job Purpose

This role is integral to the Accounting Operations Department, which is responsible for ensuring that Credit Loss Allowances (Lease, Retail, Dealer) and the Residual Value Lease Reserve are accurately established. Given that the methodologies for determining these allowances rely on various external and internal assumptions and model inputs, this area is classified as a SOX High Risk Area. The position involves leading the Modeling Team, which consists of three direct reports and one indirect report, in assessing the Loss Allowance/Residual Value Reserve and elucidating the variations and methodologies to management, staff in Japan, and external auditors. Additionally, this role includes chairing the AHFC (and HCFI) Credit Loss and Residual Value Loss Committees quarterly to discuss current and future trends affecting allowance/reserve levels and overseeing Committee governance. The position also contributes analytical insights for month-end Finance & Administration reporting and assists in planning forecasts for the Corporate Planning Department, comparing forecasts with actual results.

Key Accountabilities

  • Guide direct reports on modeling inputs and outputs to ensure reserves are suitable for the company.
  • Propose new processes to enhance model input efficiency while maintaining SOX compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in modeling methodologies and input processing.
  • Facilitate development and cross-training of team members within the department.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, footnotes, disclosures, and external audits from direct reports.
  • Conduct general ledger analytics and approve monthly analytics for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Provide project support related to the modeling area as required.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a recognized US university, with a focus on Accounting, Finance, Statistics, or Economics.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Five years of experience in analyzing and forecasting credit losses or consumer finance receivables.
  • Five years of experience in analyzing and forecasting residual values or lease end-of-term performance.
  • Preferred background in accounting.
  • Proficient in advanced Microsoft Excel and Access; experience with relational databases (Business Objects); familiarity with statistical software such as SAS or R.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey trends and methodologies to a diverse audience of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to design and develop financial models based on specific accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Highly detailed analytical skills to comprehend, interpret, and report the results of financial models.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, CECL, and IFRS accounting and reporting standards related to credit loss allowances and lease accounting.
