Position Summary:
As a Senior Federal Affairs Specialist at PPL, you will play a pivotal role in shaping energy policy and advocating for our company’s interests. We are in search of a strategic and passionate individual to join our Federal Affairs team, focusing on legislative and agency relations. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with critical issues affecting the electric and gas utility sectors during a transformative period for the industry. In this dynamic role, you will excel as a policy analyst, strategist, relationship builder, and advocate for the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Issue Monitoring: Actively track federal legislation and agency actions to identify potential impacts on the electric and gas utility sectors and company operations.
- Policy Analysis: Conduct initial assessments of legislative and agency matters, pinpointing areas for further investigation by the Federal Affairs Team and internal subject matter experts.
- Advocacy Development: Collaborate with the Federal Affairs Team to formulate effective strategies in response to legislative and agency challenges critical to the company.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain robust relationships with key external stakeholders, including congressional members, agency personnel, trade associations, and industry representatives.
- Company Representation: Advocate for the company’s established goals and objectives in interactions with external stakeholders, ensuring a clear and confident representation.
- Alignment with Objectives: Stay informed on industry trends and company developments to ensure advocacy efforts are in sync with corporate positions and strategic goals.
- Strategy Implementation: Assist the Federal Affairs team in developing effective advocacy strategies, collaborating with internal clients to ensure alignment with PPL's overarching objectives.
- Research and Communication: Support team members with research, writing, and communication tasks for both internal and external audiences, including policy reports and updates.
- PAC Support: Aid in activities related to the company’s political action committee (PAC), including compliance, communications, and member relations.
- Federal Incentives: Provide assistance in securing federal grants, rebates, credits, and other incentives.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience on Capitol Hill, at a federal agency, or in government relations, public affairs, or a relevant field.
- Comprehensive understanding of the federal legislative and agency processes.
- Strong analytical, research, and writing capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the electric and gas utility industry.
- Established relationships with congressional members, legislative staff, or agency officials.
- Experience in PAC administration is advantageous.
- Knowledge of PPL's operational footprint is a plus.
