SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF LEGISLATIVE STRATEGY

MEMA, The Vehicle Suppliers Association

Reports To: Senior Vice President of Government Affairs

Location: Washington, DC (In-office presence required three days a week with remote work options on Mondays and Fridays)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Act as the primary advocate for the supplier sector on federal and state legislative matters.

2. Represent the sector before Congress and the Administration, as well as with select state officials.

3. Expand and strengthen the industry's existing connections with Members of Congress, their staff, and relevant Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

4. Provide strategic insights to MEMA executives and the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs on significant policy matters.

5. Formulate and implement a government relations strategy to achieve essential objectives for the supplier sector.

6. Collaborate with the government affairs team and MEMA member organizations to develop and execute policy goals at both federal and state levels.

7. Supervise and guide staff members (Senior Manager of Government Affairs and Manager of Grassroots) to prioritize issues and delegate tasks effectively.

8. Offer strategic advice to MEMA members regarding key policy issues.

9. Lead the MEMA Government Affairs Committee (GAC), which serves as the primary channel for gathering feedback and insights from member companies on critical issues, and work with MEMA staff to enhance the GAC's effectiveness.

10. Participate in Council meetings to inform MEMA member companies about policy challenges, provide regular updates (both verbal and written), and engage with company leaders to boost industry involvement in MEMA's advocacy initiatives.

11. Direct the legislative team in creating coalition budgets and designing grassroots campaigns.

12. Actively engage with other industry organizations and the broader business community to advance MEMA's goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Strong understanding of political dynamics, policymaking, and current events.

2. Proven ability to navigate complex issues through the legislative process.

3. Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to articulate how legislative initiatives impact business.

4. Awareness of the role of industry associations in the broader policy and legislative landscape.

5. Negotiation skills to represent association members with governmental and non-governmental entities to achieve consensus on legislative priorities.

6. Experience collaborating with team members to reach desired outcomes.

7. Flexibility and adaptability to rapidly changing situations and prioritization of demands.

8. Interest in the mobility sector and general manufacturing issues.

9. Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills.

10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in a related field required; advanced degree preferred.

2. 7-10 years of relevant work experience.

3. Previous experience in an association or on Capitol Hill is advantageous.

4. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to lift, bend, and sit for extended periods, along with other physical demands.

2. Occasional travel may be necessary.
