Program Overview

Discover opportunities designed to set your career in motion The Comcast internship/co-op program will help you cultivate meaningful relationships, develop strong interpersonal and business skills, gain exposure to the day-to-day operations of a Fortune 40 media and technology company, and receive mentorship opportunities to expand your professional network.

This program immerses students into the daily operation of a contemporary media and technology company while working side-by-side with Comcast’s top innovators. The student becomes an integral part of the Comcast team working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units.

Organization & Team Overview

Comcast Government Affairs is part of Comcast and is located in Washington, DC. We are the lobbying and advocacy arm of the company. We act as advocates/lobbyists for the company and we cover the House and Senate Congressional Members, as well as the Administration.

This group of men and women are the eyes and ears of what is going on in Washington. They watch how new laws and regulations will affect the company and try to influence them. The intern will be a part of this team. In addition to the Lobby Team, within the Washington, DC office is the Regulatory Team that advocates for the company in front of the FCC  the regulatory agency that regulates telecommunications- video/broadband). There is also the Washington, DC Policy Team and the Communications Team, as well as the NBC Government Affairs Team and the NBC Regulatory Team. These different teams that all work collaboratively on a daily basis, guide the company with how it interacts with policy makers. The teams are always working to influence the policy coming out of the Congress and the Administration with different strategies and tactics.

Role Description

The intern will work with the Federal Government Affairs team. There are eight lobbyists on the team, and their jobs are broken down by Republican, Democrat and House and Senate. There are NBC lobbyists that also work with the Comcast teams and the intern will be part of these meetings and discussions. The team is a broad mix of former Senate and House staffers and association lobbyists. They all work well together and collaborate on a daily basis.

The intern will learn that actions law makers take in Congress affect all citizens. They will learn how a Fortune 50 company interacts with policy makers and law makers and what the Federal Government Affairs team does to influence the policy coming out of the Congress and the Administration. The intern will watch hearings, be involved in meetings with House and Senate staffers and will be part of the strategy sessions that occur on a regular basis.

The intern will work on Senate and House meetings; the Congressional baseball game where Congressional Democrats play the Republicans; Congressional hearings; Congressional lists; Administration meetings when available.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Watch Congressional hearings and take notes for circulation to Comcast Legislative Affairs team.
  • Work with members of the Legislative Affairs team on various projects.
  • Conduct guided legislative and Congressional research on topics of interest to Comcast NBCUniversal.
  • Attend internal Comcast meetings and take notes for staff.
  • Support the Legislative Affairs team in planning and execution of Comcast corporate events.
  • Attend meetings with Congressional staff.
  • Process consultant invoices and other administrative assignments as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong interest in working on the Hill after graduation or has previously worked on the Hill;
  • Strong interest in government affairs/regulatory affairs.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, required
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign is a plus, but not required
  • Must have excellent time management and verbal/written communication skills
  • Must have great attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Must have ability to interface with all levels of management
  • Must be able to work evenings (when necessary)
  • Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interest in the telecommunications, cable and media industries.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • Preferred Majors: Political Science

Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements

  • Strong desire for student to be in their junior year of undergraduate studies or first semester of their senior year of undergraduate studies. 
  • Available to work 30-35 hours per week over the course of the summer; 20 hours per week during the school year
  • Start date is flexible. Fall semester intern will have a mid- September start date and Spring semester intern will have a mid-January start date.
  • Returning to degree-program (for at least a semester) after the completion of the internship.
  • Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs
  • Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting (unless virtual offering)

Salary:

Base Pay: $30.00
