Job Overview

The Regional Sales Manager / Wood Coatings Expert role is crucial for achieving or surpassing regional performance targets within the General Industrial sector, specifically focusing on Wood Coatings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the wood coatings industry, catering to the Cabinet, Furniture, and Millwork markets. Additionally, the Regional Sales Manager will be tasked with identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities in both the Wood Coatings and General Industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Technical Support

  • Enhance and expand existing client relationships.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities.
  • Provide expert technical assistance regarding coating applications.
  • Introduce best practice techniques to clients to enhance their operations.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by anticipating and addressing client needs.
  • Stay informed about market trends and actively work to increase market share.
  • Coordinate sales efforts with the Specialty Coatings Director and regional sales teams.
  • Build strong partnerships with sales personnel, branch staff, and vendor representatives.
  • Conduct sales presentations and meetings with both prospective and current clients.
  • Maintain effective communication with vendors to optimize resource utilization.
  • Develop expertise in all product lines, including application methods and best practices.
  • Assist clients in product selection and application to foster expert relationships.
  • Create sales presentations and promotional materials to drive growth.
  • Facilitate product demonstrations with clients and factory representatives.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and reports.
  • Submit timely and accurate activity reports.

Customer Service

  • Investigate and resolve customer inquiries and Quality Management System issues.
  • Monitor customer back orders and provide necessary technical and marketing training.
  • Assist clients in managing inventory levels and color verification.
  • Ensure proper documentation for consigned inventory and equipment as per QMS guidelines.

Marketing

  • Gather and maintain customer, territory, and target market data.
  • Analyze current market competitors and their performance.
  • Collaborate with vendors on planning and market growth initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate the company's value proposition.
  • Develop and implement action plans to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
  • Prepare sales reports, proposals, forecasts, and business strategies.

Management

  • Manage expenses within budget constraints and maintain necessary records.
  • Research General Industry and Commercial Coatings information through various resources.
  • Understand sales objectives and formulate actionable plans to meet company goals.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in all sales meetings and special project assignments.
  • Assist in store operations during staff absences as needed.
  • Support inside customer service functions, including order processing.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor to ensure high-quality customer service.
  • Be available for overnight travel as required.

Physical and Training Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. frequently.
  • Demonstrate paint and related products using various application methods.
  • Complete required training courses.
  • Operate a vehicle in compliance with all applicable laws.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • A college degree and five years of territory management experience are preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in General Industrial Coatings with a focus on Wood Coatings.
  • Experience in Business Development within the paints and coatings sector.
  • Familiarity with application equipment.
  • Strong technical knowledge.

Other Requirements

Must be available to work all scheduled hours. If using a personal vehicle for business, appropriate insurance is required. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
