Job Overview

The Regional Sales Manager / Wood Coatings Expert role is pivotal in achieving and surpassing performance targets within the General Industrial sector, particularly focusing on Wood Coatings. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in the wood coatings industry, catering to the Cabinet, Furniture, and Millwork sectors. This position entails identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities in both the Wood Coatings and General Industrial markets.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Technical Support

  • Enhance and expand existing client relationships.
  • Identify and engage potential new clients.
  • Provide expert technical assistance regarding coating applications.
  • Introduce effective techniques to clients to maximize their value.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by anticipating and addressing client needs.
  • Stay informed about market trends and actively work to boost market share.
  • Collaborate with the Specialty Coatings Director and sales teams on external sales initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with sales personnel, branch staff, and vendor representatives.
  • Conduct sales presentations and meetings with both prospective and current clients.
  • Maintain productive interactions with vendors to optimize resource utilization.
  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of all product lines, including their applications and best practices.
  • Assist clients in product selection and application to foster expert relationships.
  • Create sales presentations and promotional materials to drive growth in existing and new accounts.
  • Conduct product demonstrations in collaboration with clients and factory representatives.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and reports accurately and promptly.

Customer Service Excellence

  • Investigate and address all customer concerns in line with Quality Management System protocols.
  • Monitor customer back orders and provide necessary technical and marketing training.
  • Assist clients in assessing inventory levels and color verification.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation requirements for consigned inventory and equipment.

Marketing Initiatives

  • Gather and maintain data on customers, territories, and target markets.
  • Analyze current market competitors and their performance metrics.
  • Work with vendors to strategize market growth efforts.
  • Effectively communicate the company's value proposition.
  • Develop and implement action plans to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
  • Prepare sales reports, proposals, forecasts, and business strategies.

Management Duties

  • Manage expenses within budgetary constraints and maintain necessary records.
  • Research industry trends and commercial coatings information through various resources.
  • Understand sales objectives and devise actionable plans to meet company goals.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in all sales meetings and special project assignments.
  • Support store operations during staff absences as needed.
  • Assist with inside customer service tasks, including order processing.
  • Exhibit professionalism to meet high-quality customer service standards.
  • Be available for overnight travel as required.

Physical and Training Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry weights of 25-50 lbs frequently.
  • Capable of demonstrating products using various delivery systems.
  • Completion of required training courses.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • A college degree and five years of experience in territory management are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in General Industrial Coatings, particularly in the Wood Coatings segment.
  • Background in Business Development within the paints and coatings industry.
  • Familiarity with application equipment.
  • Strong technical aptitude.

Other Requirements

Availability to work all scheduled hours as needed. If personal vehicle use is required for business, appropriate insurance must be obtained as per company policy. Must be licensed to operate a vehicle in accordance with state law.
